Re: Boss wants me to work from his house - cbelt3 - 09-17-2008 Offering to telecommute and/or freelance seems the best solution. Working out of his home, unless it's an office with the home attached, eff. The risk of him coming down the stairs in a bathrobe to 'check on the employees' .. well, ewww. Get some freelance costing estimates for the kind of work that you do, and point out that you can work for him at your current pay, which will be LOTS less, out of your place. Then freelance away. Eventually he'll become one of your smaller clients. Re: Boss wants me to work from his house - OWC Jamie - 09-17-2008 I've seen some pretty nice converted garages and basements, too. Family members running around in pajamas could be awkward. There has to be boundaries. Moving to a complex with a hundred offices and distractions could be just as bad if not worse. Offices impose an almost unconscious set of boundaries. These boundaries fly out the window once you are in someone's home. I know this from experience. Luckily the person involved is a close friend, so it doesn't bug meāmuch. Push hard for the telecommute. Since he's a cheapskate, if you have to, offer to go halfsies on the time saved commuting. (In other words, he gets a free 30-minute block a day.) |
