The last sacred cow of the average American worker has been slain. Now that his house has negative equity, has credit cards are maxed out, what was left for the greedly bankers and matrons of Wall Street to tap oust? The last pot of gold to be bled for all its worth.

That is quite a bit down. Mine has changed almost zero over the last year, but that is accounting for regular contributions so it's definitely down overall. One thing not to forget is that if you are getting an company match of any kind, that is still free money that you should not pass up. Sure, is losing value now, but once it turns around you will have that much more to gain from.

I still remember Black Monday in 1987. I think the value of my investments will recover - and it is good that I won't reach retirement age for another 15 years or so.
