Re: A United Airlines version of 2 fer 1 - cbelt3 - 04-15-2009 Racer- it's more to do with modern living vs. what our bodies were designed for. The simpler solution is then to ban all the elements of modern living and genetically engineer up a bunch of dire wolves and saber tooth tigers. Only the fast runners and good hiders would be able to reproduce. The rest of us fatties would be lunch. Re: A United Airlines version of 2 fer 1 - Racer X - 04-15-2009 well, there is that....... I was amazed that a friend's Wii Fit has a jogging game. Um, JUST GO OUTSIDE AND JOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Re: A United Airlines version of 2 fer 1 - Carnos Jax - 04-15-2009 Well, if it's a matter of being rational (if you weigh more, you should pay more), then why not have some sort of fair pricing rule? Meaning everyone pays the same for a seat? Of course, the airlines can do whatever they want, and we have the choice to do what we want as well. But if you start rationalizing seat sizes (BTW, I only take up one seat), then you should rationalize pricing as well. Re: A United Airlines version of 2 fer 1 - anonymouse1 - 04-15-2009 This is ignorance masquerading as certainty. Try "Good Calories, Bad Calories" by New York Times author Gary Taubes if you want to balance that ignorance with a little information. That's all part of figuring out your personal "equation" different food ratios and combinations yield a different end result. Once again, my ex lost 1/3 of her weight. been there, watched it, helped make it happen. Re: A United Airlines version of 2 fer 1 - Racer X - 04-15-2009 Oh, I agree. But the number of those who claim some sort of "medical condition" vs the number who actually DO have some sort of medical condition (mental or physical) is far far different. My ex is insulin-resistant. But she acknowledges that isn't an excuse, just another mitigating factor that she needs to fight against, not give up because of. Re: A United Airlines version of 2 fer 1 - Mike Johnson - 04-15-2009 Good for them. If you're so fat that you have to raise the armrest and take up some of my seat, you should have to buy two tickets for two seats. Or pay for half of mine. Losing weight isn't easy. Staying fit isn't easy. Yet some who bristle at the simple "eat less" advice nevertheless underestimate the work I put into staying in shape. It's a choice I make every day. Yes, I ate some Rolos after lunch. I also spent an hour at the gym this morning. If I hadn't gone to the gym, I wouldn't have had the Rolos. Or the bread & butter with my Lean Cuisine, for that matter. If I stop going to the gym, but continue eating crap, I'll gain weight. That would be a choice, not some biological default. Most fit adults work at it. The way I see it, you can't maintain your weight, not precisely. You're either gaining weight, or losing it. If you eat right, do 2 or 3 hours of cardio per week, and 1 or 2 hours of weight training, you'll lose a whopping 2 or 3 pounds a month. People try it for a month or two, get discouraged, and give up. But in a year, would you rather be 10 pounds heavier or 20 pounds lighter? You really do get to choose -- and whichever way you go, it is your choice. Whichever way you've been going, that was your choice. The argument over carbs vs fats is a red herring. If you want to lose weight, you will. If you want to be fat, you will. Re: A United Airlines version of 2 fer 1 - Racer X - 04-15-2009 agreed. Like I said. Just 500 calories a day is 52 pounds a year. People look at 80 pounds, and think it will never happen, and don't even try. Hell, one soda a day is a pound a month. Cut back just ONE soda a day and lose 12 pounds in a year. (or gain 12 pounds less in that year) How many years did it take to put it on? It may take more than a few weeks to make it go away. Re: A United Airlines version of 2 fer 1 - SDGuy - 04-15-2009 Looks like public opinion is currently running 82% in favor, 18% against this new policy. Also - look on the positive side. People who purchase two tickets should also be given two of everything, including double meals & double drinks. That should keep them happy... |
