In the freezer section, behind the back panel is a coil. It's probably packed with ice. Sounds like either the heating element that keeps the ice from building up has failed (look for corrosion in the glass tube) or the thermostat for the heater has failed. One can often blow out the other part, so typical to replace both items. Not costly for parts, not hard to replace.
