Will we hear the line, "I wish I knew how to quit you!"

Man, that's hilarious. STARTREK MOUNTAIN, eh?

Uh oh, guys... I just heard it on the news, apparently confirmed that it will be a "prequel" of the first mission of Kirk and Spock.

Methinks this is going to suck royally... first thing that came to mind was, "How are they going to convince the audience of a younger version of Shatner and Nimoy?" I'm sorry, but I just cannot imagine anyone else in those roles. Even if they get people who physically resemble a young Shatner and Nimoy, it's not the same... I REALLY hope this is all some sort of big joke.

Who said anything about new actors? I little bit of makeup and a lot of CGI and Shatner & Nimoy can play 50-year younger versions of Kirk and Spock. Wink

tronnei, I can just imagine it now:

Younger Spock: "Jim, listen to me, you're my friend, you have to believe me. I can't do it. Why? Because it hurts! I'm trying right now, and it's not working. We'll have to cancel the date. Aleve? Sure, I'll try it."

Younger Kirk: "Priceline.com. Name your own price. Oh wait, wrong schtick. Denny Crane!"

;-)

Ralph's right. Star Trek is just plain tired. It needs a long(er) rest.

Abrams is a talented guy, and I really like Lost, but he's got a lot of weaknesses as a plot writer. Alias became a complete mishmash pretty quickly, and Lost has that "what weird s#it that we don't have to explain can we cram in this week?" stench to it (not unlike Twin Peaks). The horrible Superman scripts that he wrote don't exactly fill me optimism, either.

If I were Paramount, I'd have called Ron Moore and told him to name his price.

"Master and Commander" is a great example for what a renovated Star Trek should be: tough men on the frontier, at the edge of their own technology and skills. I doubt that's what we'll get, though.

Russel Crowe as Kirk, Colin Ferril as Spock. Beyonce as Uhuru, Jet Li as Sulu, Jack Black as McCoy, Jude Lawe as Scottie, Robert DeNiro as the Dean of the Acadamy, fill in the blanks. This is going to be a silly movie.

With the all the good Trek books and storylines that go outside all the prior movies/tv series - why not a new story with a new cast and crew. I kinda agree that any sort of prequel gonna stretch things. Enterprise was hard enough to get used to. Move it forward or go way sideways in some part of history... or whatever...

Maybe a longer rest isn't so bad.

I hope they do end up doing more FireFly movies or maybe bring that series back to TV.

Yep, here's more info confirming all of the above:

... Kirk meets Spock at Starfleet Academy, go on their first mission together, and love ensues...

I smell stinkeroo. Big time.
