I couldn't stand the new Star Trek ... it wasn't Trek at all, just a lot of lens flare and explosions.

What I recently re-watched, surprisingly stands up well with time: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063442/ (yes, the makeup effects are dated, but I'd still rather see someone in makeup than the silly CGI we are now seeing in films...)

I second cbelt3. Dark Star should be on everybody's bucket list.

[Doolittle convinces the bomb not to explode]

Doolittle: Hello, Bomb? Are you with me?

Bomb #20: Of course.

Doolittle: Are you willing to entertain a few concepts?

Bomb #20: I am always receptive to suggestions.

Doolittle: Fine. Think about this then. How do you know you exist?

Bomb #20: Well, of course I exist.

Doolittle: But how do you know you exist?

Bomb #20: It is intuitively obvious.

Doolittle: Intuition is no proof. What concrete evidence do you have that you exist?

Bomb #20: Hmmmm... well... I think, therefore I am.

Doolittle: That's good. That's very good. But how do you know that anything else exists?

Bomb #20: My sensory apparatus reveals it to me. This is fun.

I recommend Cube, if you've never seen it.
:agree:

On my media server under scifi:

Artificial Intelligence
Avatar
Cube
District 9
I, Robot
Independence Day (how appropriate)
Iron Man
Mad Max Trilogy
Men in Black
Pandorum
Pitch Black
Predator
Serenity
Star Trek
Star Wars I - VI
Starship Troopers
Surrogates
Terminator 1-4
The Book of Eli
The Chronicles of Riddick
The Fifth Element
The Matrix trilogy
The X Files
Transformers 1 & 2
War of the Worlds
X-Men
No Dark City on that list?

Actually I was amazed that nobody's mentioned Blade Runner so far... classic sci-fi noir...

Oh and I just ran across this pic on the message boards for POTA...
