"I don't disagree that we should feel sorry for the students, but Dennis's post made it sound as though the disruption to these students' lives might actually be considered a reason not to shut down this completely corrupt program." - Davester

Not at all. I'm just saying it is no small thing and something like that on it's on would be well worth discussion here. Sure, it's small relative to the scandal, but it shouldn't be taken lightly. If there were no scandal, but a school like Penn State had their program shut down by the NCAA, it would be a HUGE sports story on it's own. I'm not saying don't shut it down because of the disruption.

That's not fair. The students didn't do anything wrong and their lives would be uprooted. It's entirely appropriate to feel sorry for them if they get caught up in the aftermath of this crime.

Life's not fair.
I learned that in college.

A different college.
"That's not fair" was directed at the two posts preceding mine which seemed to be mocking any concern for the students, and not at any suggestions being made re: the football program. Just to be clear.

Regardless, I'm not going to verbally piss all over everybody at Penn State because the administration was criminal. Sorry.

Perhaps in a urinal.

The football program should get the death penalty. It was clearly an institutional problem and the institution needs to be punished severely beyond what will happen in the courtroom. The University of Minnesota got fined $20m for not following protocol concerning a drug in it's medical department. One person -may- have died from the drug.

Hit them hard.

I think those fines against Penn State will have to be civil, in court. And they will be devastating and go on for years and years. (Think Catholic church)

They didn't break NCAA rules, they broke criminal and civil law, which is far more serious and needs a more serious remedy than the NCAA can deliver.
