I just looked for a definitive definition...

As opposed to the non-definitive definition?

If you desire actual discussion and moderate thinking then you will need to foster that environment. So far, you've cultivated an environment as toxic and narrow-minded as the republicans in Congress.

Look at the last two threads you started, "You didn't bake that," and something about something related to guns not being on CNN, when in fact it was.
How are those threads representative of the types of conversations you say you'd like to see here, and how are they different from the types of threads you say others are starting that don't foster "moderate" conversation?
Well Lemon...

If you recall (because it seems that you don't), the "You didn't bake that" thread was a look at how the "You didn't build that" fiasco still remains as a thorn in Obama's side. If you want to read more into that, you're welcome to (as many did - underscoring my thoughts above).

In the opening post of that thread, I wrote:
"A month later and it's still in the news:" then providing a link to the video (that was also carried by CNN).

The CNN Gun thing you're asking about was my asking to see if CNN had actually carried a story about a gun video. I had asked that because I know many here are vehement liberals (blindly so, in many cases) and because my own search on CNN came up empty. It was a query, much like any query I might pose to the group on the other side - but because some of the people here are paranoid to the point of hostility, they wanted to make it into something more than it was about.

Here's what I wrote in the opening post in that thread:
I've been wondering more about the video of the 71 year old man in Florida who shot at robbers trying to stick up an Internet Cafe there. Sure there's lots of internet coverage from right wing websites and media but I cannot seem to find anything about it on CNN.com.

Does anyone have a CNN.com link to this story?

Note that I asked specifically for the CNN report and acknowledged that there was "lots of coverage from right wing websites". I was looking for a CNN liberal report because I already know how right wing sources will spin the story and wanted to find a semblance of balance in the reporting (had it been on Al Jazeera, I'd probably prefer that over the rest).

What I do find curious about your query here is that I must presume you did a search of the threads I started and you skipped over the most recent (which destroys your "two most recent" statement) titled "This is some dumb shoot" in which I found the Texas judge warning of a civil war caused by a re-election of Obama to be "Unbelievably dumb". Perhaps you agree with this evaluation that doesn't support your theory?

My opening statements for all these threads (with the exception of the "This is some dumb shoot" thread) have been fairly neutral and open for discussion. I don't typically come on grandstanding about any hot topic, I'm interested in information, and information from all sides of the spectrum.

"What did Saddam do with the oil? Drink it?"

This is a very apt retort to those who say we went in there for oil. You don't like it because it makes you uncomfortable. And don't pretend by not naming me you are above it all. You are knee deep in this stuff.

This goes back to my point about what's-his-face.

If someone posts a link to a long article and gets a response like "What did Saddam do with the oil? Drink it? You are frozen in your 70s state of mind reading Workers of the World Unite." what is the point of trying to have a conversation with the person who responds like that?

I am under NO obligation to cater to morons and do not have to do so just to placate anybody.

This is certainly a childish response to whomever you're responding to.

If you find someone so reprehensible I don't understand why you would even participate, much less resort to "what's-his-face" kind of games.

You just like to argue. I'm not going to play with you.

P.S. I have NEVER seen you post on a thread with a link to an article to discuss the content of the article. All you do is come onto threads and complain about what people are posting. SO physician, heal thyself.

On top of that, most of the liberals here are not interested in discussion, the interest here is in backslapping, self-congratulation and mutual hatred of opposing parties.

A great indication of this are the thread topics of the past couple of days. I didn't even bother reading the actual content because it's going to be filled with like-minded hatred and narrow thinking.

I don't know how you can hope to offer any legitimacy to your viewpoint when you post these statements. Where are the data about what your alleged "most of the liberals here" do ? I have read much disagreement between left-leaning posters here. Further, how can you present evidence and draw conclusions from material that you state, "I didn't even bother reading?" That's plain nonsense. You persistently categorize other posters here as narrow-minded, but offer up some very narrow minded opinions yourself.

I have read and posted very good discussion here, along with drivel. I read many of these posts to gain exposure to others' ideas and to learn, as well as to laugh. I have accomplished those goals within the content here. There have been knowledgeable and legitimate conservative viewpoints, however, they have been lost. If you care to wear that mantle, prove it with content. The same goes for anyone else. Meanwhile, I don't think the broad, unsubstantiated categorizations you have presented have any merit.

Just recently someone posted that excellent article "Fear of a Black President", which I then shared on Facebook. My responses on FB were mature and discussed the article. The responses here made it plain that not one person could be bothered to read it, let alone comment upon it. What's left but to get stupid, when any effort to have an intelligent conversation is shat upon?

And now we come full circle. Because during the time that what's-his-face was banned, the threads stayed on track better, the threads had a higher level of discourse, and the fights were fewer. It's a FACT. So I block him. So what.

Missed that one. I didn't read it initially because I assumed it was about guns (again.) That same topic had just been discussed 24 hours earlier in a thread started by August West, so that's probably why you only got three comments. Not much left to say really.

Sorry but I don't see the few threads you start or the many comments you make as any more or less interesting than anyone else's and certainly not less opinionated.

There are lots of other places to discuss politics, I'm sure you could find one that's more to your liking if you tried.
