Ouch! http://www.klipsch.com/cornwall-iii-floorstanding-speaker Re: Is anyone looking for an entry level turntable? - Sam3 - 11-17-2012 I have an ION that I used to digitize some older albums. It worked well, I don't think it irreparably damaged the LPs. The tonearm is heavier than audiophile tonearms, but not any heavier than older Garrard changers or record changers that GeneL posted above. I'd like to use my Thorens TD 160, but I have some hum running though it that I can't seem to get rid of. Actually I've never had much luck in getting rid of hum from turntables. That is one reason why I opted to get the ION, I wanted a clean, hum-free transfer. Thanks for posting about your experience using an Ion turntable. Re: Is anyone looking for an entry level turntable? - deckeda - 11-17-2012 Re: damage It's the ION's included worthless cartridge and specifically its cheap stylus which will unnecessarily wear records. The various Crosleys and other Sharper Image-type products have he same issue. Put a $50 Audio Technica AT95 on it and the problem is fixed. Or any old eBay Shure, new stylii are available, etc. Sam3, if you don't send the TD160 to someone to fix you might as well just sell it. But it's capable of so much more than an ION. Headshell and tonearm wiring issues aren't significant. |
