I want a Marantz with the blue lights.

Heh... I still have my old Kenwood setup into a set of Technics speakers that I picked up after my annoying little sister blew out my JBL speakers in '81. One of these days ™ I need to hook up my Dad's old system... Nakamichi and Denon and Magnepan speaker set....

Kudos on your decision to go vintage, it is well worth for those who appreciate great sound. Still have the Marantz 2230 with wood (well simuwood I think I'd call it) cab that I grew up with...I think this is a '75 or '77 model.

Sound is amazingly warm and full vs. my modern (and cold, digital) Denon 16xx. Interestingly, it's also WAY more powerful...I can ramp up the volume and it won't cut out or shut off unlike my Denon. In '09, I found a guy who restores them for a few hundred bucks, but I didn't pull the trigger. He replaces the blue lights with LEDs so they last forever I guess, and cleans up all the pots and innards to make it as like-new as possible. PM me if anyone wants his contact info.

SteveO

I've got a Marantz 2230 in my basement too - it was my very first receiver! I also didn't spring for the case, but made one (out of oak) in my senior wood shop class.

Some of the lights have gone out, the pots _are_ noisy, and the power switch has to be pressed just so to stay on, so I'd be interested in the guy who re-furbs receivers like mine.

FWIW, I also recently inherited some groovy SAE gear (out of my price range way back when), like this:

and this:

that I have driving a crummy pair of speakers in a workout room. Also very noisy (slide) pots. But those LEDs on the front of the power amp were so cool back in the day, I'd just go to the stereo shop and watch them bounce around...
