Re: What is the most dangerous thing you have ever done? - N-OS X-tasy! - 02-14-2021 Riding my motorcycle home after getting intoxicated at happy hour one summer Sunday evening when I was 20 years old. Wasn’t wearing any safety gear at all. Ran a red light on the way home that I didn’t even see and came THIS CLOSE to getting creamed by cross traffic. I was sober when I arrived home safe a few minutes later. That was the last time I rode/drove any vehicle intoxicated and without proper safety gear. Skydiving comes in at a distant second. Re: What is the most dangerous thing you have ever done? - cyclemax - 02-14-2021 Riding my bike every day for 30 years. 4 major accidents, none of which were my fault. Fractured pelvis, broken collar bone and hand, dislocated shoulder and 8 weeks in physical therapy to get my body back into alignment after some a-hole in a pick-up truck turned in front of me when I was going 25 mph. Asphalt is very unforgiving! Still Riding though not the mega miles I used to do. I used to work on LIVE electrical circuits at 220V AC back in Romania. Yeap. Or swim across a lake before I really knew how to swim (and still cannot swim properly). And many many other stupid things. Re: What is the most dangerous thing you have ever done? - mrbigstuff - 02-14-2021 This has somewhat morphed into the "dumbest" from the most dangerous. But, I guess they go hand in hand. Re: What is the most dangerous thing you have ever done? - goodmanx - 02-15-2021 that midnight drive after taking a coupla quaaludes . . . . we both woke up at the same time in the middle of an s-curve. Re: What is the most dangerous thing you have ever done? - rz - 02-15-2021 I haven't done any cave diving, but I have done wreck penetration. As Ombligo says, if you meticulously follow the rules, it's not as dangerous as it sounds. Although I do know someone who does cave diving, and on one trip he found the body of someone who obviously didn't follow the rules. Re: What is the most dangerous thing you have ever done? - Diana - 02-15-2021 Don’t know if it’s the most dangerous, but certainly not the smartest. Driving too fast down a (thankfully) paved 2-lane county road with bar ditches on each side and suddenly recalling that the right-hand turn right in front of me was a 90 degree, 20 mph turn and not a curve. I hit the brakes and found they didn’t grab. The car slewed around, and at that moment I realized that trying to control the spin would end badly. I whipped the wheel to finish the 180, and I found myself going backwards. Had I hit the bar ditch at my now rear at least my head would have been cushioned by the headrest. I don’t think I was wearing my seatbelt. Fortunately the car stopped before hitting said bar ditch. No damages done and so I never had to admit to it. During my (high school) senior trip we went to one of the reservoirs around here. A friend and I decided to swim across an arm of the reservoir to a stone fort on the other side, never mind the boats speeding through there. I did grab a life jacket I towed behind me in case I got tired. Made it across only to realize that I had the return trip to make. Nothing like floating around with your arm waving in the air hoping someone will see you before it’s too late. The one and only time I drove while intoxicated. Never again, as it scared the crap out of me. When I was younger I would drive anywhere at anytime, with never a thought about what could happen if the car broke down and refused to move. Yeah, the fearlessness of youth. Re: What is the most dangerous thing you have ever done? - Marc Anthony - 02-15-2021 My high school best friend was driving me and our dates home from a club around 4:00AM, and it was a roughly one hour trip, so I dozed off. I awoke to find us in a full 360 spin on the highway with the sound of screeching and the smell of burning rubber. He had also fallen asleep, but he jerked the wheel when we started to veer onto the shoulder. A car that could have struck us sped by just as we came to a stop. We all talked about how scary it was and that we were lucky to be alive. I was asleep again within 10 minutes. |
