Before there were personalized plates, HAMS in CA could get their call letters on their plates at no extra charge.

My plate says "ISNRYU".
It is obscure. But some people will recognize it. And that is the idea.

Nope.
My license plate is for me. It's not to entertain anyone. I just couldn't remember my old plate, so I got something I could remember.
I think of it as a "custom" plate rather than a "vanity" plate.

I saw a plate in MA: LMAO. The driver MUST have applied for this prior to the internets being at the fingertips of staff at the RMV.
