Re: Who doesn't have a HDTV? - sunfalcon - 10-20-2007 I've got a 7 year old Sharp 32" CRT, 10 year old Sharp 27", and a nice Optoma EP716 projector that I do the high-def stuff with in the basement! Re: Who doesn't have a HDTV? - davester - 10-20-2007 [quote sunfalcon]... and a nice Optoma EP716 projector that I do the high-def stuff with in the basement! Oh, is that what you call that stuff? Re: Who doesn't have a HDTV? - blooz - 10-20-2007 Moi. 20" magnavox I bought used. It's showing it's age. Also have one my exgirlfriend gaveme when she moved, 13". I just use them for watching movies. No reception here in the hills. No HD. When they're cheap and my current set dies then maybe. Re: Who doesn't have a HDTV? - endymion - 10-20-2007 36" Sony CRT given to us by friends who bought HDTV set 2 years ago. 20" Magnavox and 19" Sanyo CRTs prior to that. I am interested in going HDTV but not at the price/pain-points currently offered, esp. from cable. For whatever reason the Antenna in our house in the attic had the cord cut a long time ago, so returning to OTA will be difficult. When I can get 40" for $500-800 with tuner, then it'll happen. I think that will coincide right around the analog end-of-life date. I'll definitely try to use one of the government coupons for the cash. My opinion of the HDTV mandate is that it was poorly implemented and ill-timed. If the HDTV decisions had been finalized in 2002 instead of 1996, I suspect the implementation could have happened much more quickly and been much more universal. g= Re: Who doesn't have a HDTV? - volcs0 - 10-20-2007 This is a really interesting thread. We have all standard- or low-def in our house. XBox media center and Tivo with networking between rooms is decidedly low-def. 36" JVC CRT 15" Polaroid LCD That's it - waiting for the Next Big Thing, I guess. Re: Who doesn't have a HDTV? - PeterB - 10-20-2007 I have: One 27" Sony WEGA -- in the bedroom One 32" Philips FauxFlat -- in the living room One 9" Emerson -- in the kitchen NONE of them are HDTV, though I have HDTV tuners for the first two. (Wonder if I should do anything about the third... it's a small convenience, being able to watch in the kitchen as you're cooking.) My experience with reception of OTA HDTV is that it's spotty -- often get pixelation and artifacts. I absolutely refuse to get cable or satellite. I am NOT looking forward to the switchover... I think the better question to have asked in this thread would have been, "those of you who don't have an HDTV, do you plan on getting one in the near future?", since the switchover is going to result in a lot of TV's being thrown in the trash... a huge amount of electronics waste. I especially think of all the little TV's out there (like the one in my kitchen), that a lot of people won't bother converting over. Re: Who doesn't have a HDTV? - AAA - 10-20-2007 I get about 3 analog, OTA channels - I do not have an HDTV set and/or decoder. Re: Who doesn't have a HDTV? - graylocks - 10-20-2007 PeterB once it's all dIgital, will my TV stop working? i have cable; will OTA be unavailable for non-digital tv? Re: Who doesn't have a HDTV? - Silencio - 10-21-2007 A circa 1999 Sony 27" TV. Big old box by today's standards, but does the job well enough. If I break down and buy a HiDef LCD panel, that will have a very expensive cascade effect on my DirecTV subscription, my DVR, stereo receiver, and on and on and on. I have better things to spend money on -- er, I mean save/invest -- at the moment. Your cable should be fine since all digital cable boxes already translate from digital to analog. After everything goes digital, OTA analog will not work without a converter box. |
