The Cubs were in first place when Minty died, and I am strangely comforted by that. Sleep well.

WOW! Thanks for the news, as horrible as it is. His is the third death this week of someone I've known (or in his case "known").
I hope that he has peace now. I believe, he was having family issues since the passing of his mother. I hope that he has been reunited with her and is happy.
