Re: Elmo hits rock bottom for me - $tevie - 12-17-2024 I believe that it was Dick Cheney who was evil incarnate. I think W was a none-too-bright, artistically inclined, dry-drunk who got pushed into politics by his family and was happy to let Cheney do all the planning and scheming while W concentrated on things that interested him. He understood that migrants were the backbone of the economy because he was from Texas, and he fought off the kind of nonsense we see today. He seemed to be non-racist and non-bigoted. If you recall his speech after 9-11, he was so heartfelt and so moved and so determined to keep America strong; then he let himself get talked into all the BS of the Patriot Act and invading Iraq and all that right wing crapola which totally ruined a lot of lives here and abroad. I bet he really DID think there were weapons of mass destruction, because I doubt he ever did any research on his own, meaning he believed whatever he was told. He shouldn't have been in government at all, but that's the family biz so he got sucked into it and was never very good at it. The people around him took advantage of that to push their corporate agendas. I simply do not think of him as evil, that's my two cents. As for Trump, he is out for himself only, and will walk right over anybody including family if he thinks it will benefit him. He is stupid intellectually but he is smart at being a bullshit artist. Good enough to fool a third of this country into thinking he has any value as a human being at all. Re: Elmo hits rock bottom for me - kj - 12-18-2024 I don't believe at all that W is remotely as bad as trump. Just the fact he hangs with the Obamas I think proves that. Re: Elmo hits rock bottom for me - mrbigstuff - 12-18-2024 W was not intrinsically evil; in fact, I think he was rather benign, perhaps because of and in spite of his misspent youth. He struck me as a sad figure, and I agree that he was accepting of people and situations that were not acceptable to others in the R party. But whether or not Cheney was the Dr. Evil in that administration, W was the President and must own it. Ergo, he was the worst recent president* because of the situation the country was left in after his time. It will take decades (perhaps longer) to change the perception of the US across the globe. *this could all change in four years! Re: Elmo hits rock bottom for me - mrbigstuff - 12-18-2024 W was a sad figure, evident from his face, if you ask me. I even felt bad for him at times. But he was also the president, and as such, he must own everything that happened with his approvals. Ergo, the worst President of recent memory. But, that could all change in four years! |
