need advice about an older amp - lazydays - 07-30-2010 I have an Accuphase E-202 which was rebuilt in 1996. I was listening to music a few days ago and heard a "pop" sound and the speakers cut out. If I turn the amp off and then back on I do not hear the customary "clunk" sound that follows. I have tried pushing the reset button in the back with no luck. Any suggestions? Re: need advice about an older amp - Filliam H. Muffman - 07-30-2010 I think I have said it before, when something like this fails, there was likely something else already wrong with it and the current problem finally took it down. I would guess there is an internal fuse somewhere in addition to the circuit breaker. If there is no fuse, then look for either a bulged electrolytic capacitor can or a blackened transistor in the circuit close to where the power comes in. Re: need advice about an older amp - cbelt3 - 07-30-2010 What Fill said, with the added note that somewhere there is a component that lost all of the critical material that is the active element in all electronics...... Smoke. (You may want to check your speaker fuses... The electronics repair sequence is: 1- Check it's got power. 2- Check all connections. 3- Check all fuses. 4- Look for signs of heat damage- scorch marks, smoke smell, bulging capacitors, etc. 5- Scratch head and start tracing the circuits.
