Interesting conversation on NPR - choose ONE superpower: invisiblility or flight - hal - 08-21-2010 The conversation went all over the place - lots of psychobabble, but lots of interesting conversation. If you could choose ONE of the the two, which would it be and why? Flight seems obvious, but think of all of the fun stuff that can be done with invisibility... anyway, I'm off to get a massage.... ahhhhhh.... Re: Interesting conversation on NPR - choose ONE superpower: invisiblility or flight - archipirata - 08-21-2010 As a commercial photographer, I would have to choose flight, but if I was a photojournalist, I think invisibility would be best. Re: Interesting conversation on NPR - choose ONE superpower: invisiblility or flight - M A V I C - 08-21-2010 Would your clothes be invisible as well? Re: Interesting conversation on NPR - choose ONE superpower: invisiblility or flight - archipirata - 08-21-2010 Is the flight power strong enough to pick up chicks and fly them around? Re: Interesting conversation on NPR - choose ONE superpower: invisiblility or flight - Mike Johnson - 08-21-2010 I used to ask my high school students this. It seems to me that
heroes pick flight criminals pick invisibility
Re: Interesting conversation on NPR - choose ONE superpower: invisiblility or flight - testcase - 08-21-2010 Flight hands down. ![]() Re: Interesting conversation on NPR - choose ONE superpower: invisiblility or flight - M A V I C - 08-21-2010 Mike Johnson wrote: I disagree. For me, if clothes are invisible it defeats the purpose of invisibility. If they are invisible, then a rocket pack should be as well. But not only that, if you're invisible, you would have to have no mass for light not to have any impact on you. And with no mass, you wouldn't have gravity and thus a need to fly. Re: Interesting conversation on NPR - choose ONE superpower: invisiblility or flight - davester - 08-21-2010 I think mavic is having difficulty with the whole superpower concept. For me it would have to be flight. Just imagine... Davester to hot woman: "Check this out" (flies) Woman: "Cool" Davester to hot woman: "Check this out" (disappears) Woman: "Creepy". Re: Interesting conversation on NPR - choose ONE superpower: invisiblility or flight - lafinfil - 08-21-2010 It was a segment on "This American Life" last week and should still be available as a free podcast through tomorrow or Monday or stream for free on their site http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/178/superpowers "Act One. Invisible Man Vs. Hawkman. John Hodgman conducts an informal survey in which he asks the age-old question: Which is better: The power of flight or the power of invisibility? He finds that how you answer tells a lot about what kind of person you are. And also, no matter which power people choose, they never use it to fight crime. (13 minutes)" Re: Interesting conversation on NPR - choose ONE superpower: invisiblility or flight - PeterB - 08-21-2010 I voted Option 5, because I wouldn't want either. I'd want either or both of telekinesis or telepathy. ![]() |
