'plain to me this please - kap - 09-28-2010

An used (from Japan) engine for my 1986 Honda Accord LX cost $1,500 including labor. An used engine (from Japan) for my wife's 1997 Toyota RAV4 will cost $1,700 including labor. My brother's 2006 Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck's registration fee is $150. Mine is $130. Why is my car so "special"?

Availability of parts (good-enough or better available parts, I would add, since I know there were many more Accords made than there ever will be RAV4's).

Registration fees are always close in price most every place, regardless of a year...unless your dealing with an antique or something special. What's your tax difference though? ; ) ...or does your registration mean to include property tax/tags/everything?

My take, anyways.

does your brother live in the same state and county as you do?

Re: 'plain to me this please - kap - 09-28-2010

He lives in CA as we do but in a more expensive county ... Sta Barbara.

maybe the registration is by class; a truck and a sedan wouldn't be in the same vehicle class. just speculating...

Maybe everything is operated on lottery ticket system :dunno:

I don't even understand your question. You're comparing the cost of a replacement engine to license fees?

Re: 'plain to me this please - kap - 09-28-2010

No. I am not complaining. I am wondering why it costs so much to own a 20+ year old car, which is not even a classic. It seems to me like it'd be more economic viable to own a new car.

Age old argument. $1,500 is only 3 car payments toward a new car.
