Cat Power is just not growing on me ... - decocritter - 09-29-2010

I have 2 cd's neighbor gave meand she is just ok.

Also gave me Flatlanders which really has grown on me.

Of course the John Prine Live on Tour, is my favorite. Love "Picture Show" and "Quit Hollerin' At Me". So great ....

I don't want your big French Fry
I don't want your car
I don't want to buy no soap
From no washed-up movie star

You are so much louder
Than the show I wanna hear
With your sugarless gum
Gee but I'm dumb, non-alcoholic beer

It's enough to make a grown man
Blow up his own TV
Quit hollerin' at me
Quit hollerin' at me

She does a great version of Sea of Love

If you want to listen to female singer-songwriters, may I suggest KT Tunstall or Kris Delmhorst, the first more rock-oriented and the second more whispy folky. I do like Cat Power, even more then Neko Case, who all the hipsters adore.

I know all of the rock critics and hipsters adore Cat Power, but I just never really dug her music, even her cover songs, which I usually enjoy. I do think that her cover of Oasis's "Wonderwall" is pretty cool, though.

I am not into cat power either. There are so many singers, at some point, you get to decide who you want to like. I do love Neko Case, but I understand that is subjective too (and her early albums are pretty murky). KT Tunstall is ok but not really in the same category (I wish I had chanced to see her playing on the streets in Burlington when she first came over).
