Posting from the iPad in the hospital waiting room. - rgG - 09-30-2010

Thank goodness the hospital has free WiFi access, as it makes waiting a lot easier. My husband is here for an outpatient heart procedure to hopefully correct a heart flutter problem, and I will be waiting in the waiting room for several hours. He was the first patient scheduled, which means they wanted us here at 6:00 am. Since the hospital he is having it done at is about 45 minutes from our house, that meant getting up about 4:30 am. Since I went to bed after 12:00, I am a little tired. Thank goodness they have a nice coffee machine for the "waiters" of the patients. I have already had one cup, and I may be going back for more.

If the procedure is successful, hubby will be able to drop some of the drugs he has been taking. We are hopeful that all will go well and this will get the boy some better rhythm. Smile

I hate being at a hospital, but this one is pretty nice, as hospitals go. They seem to be pretty good about telling you what, when, why, and such, and I have a "patient advocate" person assigned, who will be keeping me informed. Hopefully there won't be any surprises, and we will be going home this afternoon. They told my husband that he won't even be completely out, while they are doing the procedure, how wild is that? Pretty amazing what they can do these days without having to actually opening you up.

It's sweet that you can still make his heart flutter after all these years. (or is it the angina you cause ?)

: -)

Wish Mr. G a speedy recovery !

They can work wonders with those procedures these days, rgG, and your husband will feel so much better once his heart is working normally. Being tired all the time is no fun. You are both in my thoughts today.I am guessing he is having an ablation?

Prayers for Mr. G. and his doctors . . . one for you, too... Angel

I am not sure exactly what his procedure is called, they haven't used the tern ablation, but here is what they will be doing. They will be building a little dam or block within the right, I think, chamber of his heart to stop the electrical looping that is causing his heart flutter. They have been controlling his rhythm with meeds for several years and he decided he wanted to give this procedure a try, so that he can hopefully drop some of the pills he is taking, coumadin being one of them. The procedure is supposed to have a 95% success rate for his condition, but you never know what they may find once they start poking around in there. I hope this does work, because I really hate that he has to take so many medications.

And Phil, since this seems to run in his family, I think his mother gave him the angina. Big Grin

Edit: They just gave me an update, that the procedure had been started and I asked what exactly it was called. It is an EP flutter ablation, so Gutie was correct.

Good luck to the Mister ! And to you for the recovery stage.

Us guys tend to be a bit... whiny... when recovering from surgery.
