A-10 Simulated Base Attack at Air Show - miK. - 09-30-2010 Pretty cool clip even with the ground blasts being pyrotechnics... hang til the end! ![]() Re: A-10 Simulated Base Attack at Air Show - freeradical - 09-30-2010 Pretty nice. I watched real training done here in Korea. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/facility/koonni.htm Re: A-10 Simulated Base Attack at Air Show - Don Kiyoti - 10-01-2010 A-10s are fun to watch when they're going all out. (Unless they are attacking you of course.) They fly over my house so often I don't even look up any more. Re: A-10 Simulated Base Attack at Air Show - neophyte - 10-01-2010 I thought they had been decommissioned? They seem so capable at their task. The A-10 was decommissioned, to the point that they began transferring the planes to Korea and he began training to loading the F-16s that were supposed to replace them. Then when they actually started trying to use the F-16 in the same ground support role as the A-10, the Air Force and Army realized it couldn't do it. Instead they updated all the A-10s with new cockpit instrumentation. Last I heard, the National Guard is ordering new A-10s and are starting the process to decommission the F-16s that were supposed to replace the A-10s. I remember when I was 5 and going to the family day airshow at my dad's unit. When the A-10 fired its 30mm gun the richochet actually made the plane go backwards for an instant. Whether you're a pacifist or not, the engineering around the GAU-8 and the A-10 is simply awe-inspiring. Re: A-10 Simulated Base Attack at Air Show - AllGold - 10-01-2010 Interesting, lemmingboy, thanks. I love how the gun sounds like a gigantic fart. :jest: Re: A-10 Simulated Base Attack at Air Show - Will Collier - 10-01-2010 I love the Hog. Great jet, and fortunately recognized as being uniquely capable for its task before being prematurely retired. Re: A-10 Simulated Base Attack at Air Show - wowzer - 10-01-2010 Wow! Thanks for sharing. I'd never watched any video that showed live ammunition usage. That's an airshow that I'd like to attend. The warthog is amazing...I've read that up to 40% of the plane could be destroyed/damaged and it could still fly. That's engineering. Re: A-10 Simulated Base Attack at Air Show - JoeH - 10-02-2010 I miss seeing the A-10's go over this area. They converted the Air National Guard unit near here that used to fly them to F-15's a couple years ago. Their planes went to other ANG units to be refurbished and keep them supplied with usable airframes. |
