MBP Install Problem! - IronMac - 10-01-2010

Ok, a bit of a nightmare here.

Some of you may remember that in June I sold my C2D MBP to my sister in Ottawa (am currently in Singapore) but had forgotten the original install discs. The choice then was to use the install discs that came with the i7 MBP that I purchased at the same time at the Apple Store in Ottawa or to use the Snow Leopard upgrade disc that I had brought along by mistake.

The consensus on here was to use the Snow Leopard upgrade disc which is what I did. Unfortunately, the upgrade disc did not include stuff such as iPhoto which my sister really wanted.

Back in Toronto, I could not find the original install disc for the C2D MBP but did find a backup here in SG. So I sent it on to her a couple of weeks back.

She’s started to do the install and now it’s asking for the second disc. Yikes!!! There is no second disc! I’ve looked around here but there doesn’t seem to be one. Either I’ve lost it or it’s somewhere in Toronto but I’ve looked there too for the originals back in June.

So, what should we do now?

First of all, is there a way to circumvent the install asking for the second disc which I am assuming holds the apps? Then, she can load on the Snow Leopard upgrade disc so she can at least have her laptop working again?

Or, barring that, should I simply send her copies of my MBP’s install discs?

Thanks!

your i7 discs won't work on her MBP (your old one)

wasn't it ready to go when you sold it? why does she need to install the OS again?

Snow Leopard would have upgraded the C2D MBP and left all the other applications in place. did you choose to erase for some reason?

I wiped clean my system.

Instead of the standard install, do a custom install and deselect print drivers, additional fonts and language translations. I know the print drivers are on the second disc, and the other 2 as well I think.

Ok, but how does she get out of the current system asking for "Disc 2"? The second DVD holds the iLife bundle, I believe.

Ok, crisis averted. Other sis in Toronto has found what I cannot...in less than 15 mins...which means that she's either a lot more competent than me or that she's been snooping around. hehehe

You R E A L L Y need to take better care of your System Discs! Losing or misplacing those "special" discs are what PC people do, NOT Mac People. Buck up, dude . . . :poke:
