Who here is using eSATA with OS X? - M A V I C - 11-05-2010

I just ran into a really odd issue and I'm not sure why. I have an esata enclosure. I ejected it (Finder.) I put a new drive in and started it back up. The Disk Utility refuses to recognize the new drive as anything but the old drive. Still reports it as a 1.5TB drive (same model and everything) even though it's a 2TB drive.

Anyone else tried this? I wonder if it's because it's a Hac.

10.6.4 issue? Have a image of 10.6.3 you can restore to check?

I can't because my MBP has no functioning battery.....

I could try 10.6.2...

Racer, let me know when you want your battery back. I did a full power cycle on it to keep it healthy.

I use eSATA on my Mac Pro, which is running 10.5.8 and has a $50 eSATA card from OWC in it. I hot-swap drives frequently with a pair of Newertech Voyager Q docks connected to its two eSATA ports. This Mac recognizes the various drives I swap correctly, reporting their names and capacities as expected.

Interesting. Thanks.

Possibility a limitation of the enclosure chip set? I know that OWC has < 2GB limitations on some of their older enclosures. You did reboot the computer?

Has the computer gone to sleep with the first drive in the enclosure? Did you try putting it to sleep and waking with the second drive installed?

I don't use sleep on this machine. I may not have rebooted it since the drive was swapped. I'll try that later. For now I just plugged it in internally. For some reason I'm getting rather slow speeds CCC'ing over the network - 13MB/s

I use a pretty similar setup to laarree. However, I had a fair amount of quirkiness in mounting and unmounting drives under Leopard with my Voyager Q and my NewerTech 6G card. Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, everything has worked flawlessly.
