Can you uninstall a security update? - flareslow - 11-21-2010

Since installing the latest Apple security update on 10.5.8 on my G5, Safari and Firefox, both latest versions, hang (spinning beach ball) on loading some websites like iGoogle and Amazon and require force quit. Anyone else seen a problem like this?

Reset Safari.

The command is in the Safari menu.

If that doesn't work, it's probably a DNS issue.

Doc,
Thanks, I had google's DNS servers set, so I deleted them. I also reset Safari and Firefox. Now Firefox seems to work ok, but Safari gets into an infinite loop trying to load Amazon.com.

Two medicines that seem to cure all my Mac's ills have been Cocktail and Disk Utilities>Repair Permissions. If you haven't done so, give them a try.

OnyX and Applejack, too.

Do you still have the DNS servers from your ISP listed in the DNS field in your Network pref's?

...

Login under a different user account (create one in your Accounts pref's if necessary) and see if Safari loads Amazon properly again.

If it does then my next suspect would be an Internet plug-in or Input Manager in your Users/[username]/Library folder.
