SSDs vs $$ - sam ward - 11-21-2010
Does the increase in SSD HDs speed warrant the added cost? I open/save many large PS files in PS. Do hard drives have anything to do with manipulating the file once in PS?

I'm thinking that if you don't have a lot of RAM, then there's disk caching involved. Isn't that why you're supposed to have a scratch disk?
Maybe barefeats, arstech, anantech, or some similar site has SSD test using photo shop.

I think SSDs are great for a boot disk. But in OSX, I wouldn't use one for a lot of data. OS X, AFAIK, still has no way to deal with the rewrite problem SSD face.

Mac OS X appears to be inherently immune to that Windows problem:

I'm pretty sure this happens to macs with standard SSD storage. What's interesting is whether Apple has made some software changes in their new SSDs in the MBA.

Sandforce based SSDs seem to handle rewrites well enough to make them a viable consideration for a lot of people.

There's clearly a huge slowdown with my SSD.
