iomega media NAS - FU - Mini 9 - 11-21-2010

got my $60 1TB NAS from the woot deal.

While the woot page says 90 day warranty ...

http://sellout.woot.com/blog/viewentry.aspx?id=15023

once registered with iomega, it shows they give it a 3 year warranty. (woohoo)

Now, just plugged it into power, and ethernet, and the Mac finder, left pane shows the drive ready to go.

And Time Machine prefs see it as a valid Time Machine backup drive.

The interface for managing folders is easy enough. Buttons toggle iTunes sharing and DLNA sharing.

It can be set up to share photos, manage torrents, and act as ftp server.

Overall for $60 a gigabit NAS with all those features is great. I bought this as a test before buying their dual-drive NAS. The dual-drive NAS also allows IP Cameras to be recorded as a DVR. I have an IP Camera I want to record and that would be great.

looks great - what kind of speed does it get?

Re: iomega media NAS - FU - Mini 9 - 11-21-2010

Not sure how I'd measure it. Seems faster than my Buffalo Linkstation. It does NOT require a 'reboot' for major configuration changes.

Re: iomega media NAS - FU - clay - 11-22-2010

open up activity monitor, copy a large file to the NAS and watch under the "network" tab in activity monitor for speed of transfer.

Re: iomega media NAS - FU - Mini 9 - 11-22-2010

If I read it correctly, 10 MB/sec

Re: iomega media NAS - FU - wowzer - 11-22-2010

10mb/sec is faster than my D-link 321...I only got 8mb/sec on 100baseT.

Re: iomega media NAS - FU - Mini 9 - 11-22-2010

I guess that's not too bad, then.

Good purchase, thanks for the writeup.

Re: iomega media NAS - FU - sekker - 11-22-2010

Did you have any trouble with the setup?

Re: iomega media NAS - FU - Mini 9 - 11-22-2010

Setup? I just plugged it in to power and ethernet and pretty much what you see you get.
It defaults to no password/lock, and everyone can see/access the shared folders.
Since it's designed for media, I guess they think that's fine. I know some people would want it to be more secure out of the box. Works for me at this point.
