First day with Parallels (6). (It's no Virtual PC) - Mini 9 - 11-27-2010 Remember the days of hobbling along with Virtual PC? Well, this Parallels 6 is slick as snot. Still not sure of all the options, and how it all works, but performance on my 2.0 Mac Mini with 5 GBs is nice and does not slow down my OS X stuff much while it's cranking. I ripped some DVDs using DVD Shrink and did not even notice any CPU hit. I LIKE (is the common parlance, I believe) Re: First day with Parallels (6). (It's no Virtual PC) - prymsnap - 11-27-2010 Virtual PC...my word, that required an enormous amount of patience. Parallels 6 is quite peppy, especially when I excised some malware that was lurking in Windows. Did you get that recent discount on 5 with a free upgrade to 6? Re: First day with Parallels (6). (It's no Virtual PC) - Mini 9 - 11-27-2010 No, just got it straight out today. Re: First day with Parallels (6). (It's no Virtual PC) - onthedownlow - 11-27-2010 Virtual PC was emulation too, remember. Different beast at the time and was the only way you could 'do that'. Re: First day with Parallels (6). (It's no Virtual PC) - btfc - 11-27-2010 When the B+W G3's came out, I had a client who insisted on getting an Orange PC card even though I recommended against it. It never worked right, and support was terrible. Re: First day with Parallels (6). (It's no Virtual PC) - what4 - 11-27-2010 Parallels is good. Crossover is smaller and faster for the things it knows how to handle, such as running Internet Explorer. Re: First day with Parallels (6). (It's no Virtual PC) - cbelt3 - 11-27-2010 Virtual PC ! I still have the original floppy for that... it ran on my mac PLus ! Made a horrible gear grinding noise on startup, that always made me laugh. And ran with all the power of a PC-xt that was embedded in molasses. In January. In Minnesota. |
