Another reason to purchase the GoFlex drives. Thunderbolt bases this year - Trouble - 03-17-2011 http://storageeffect.media.seagate.com/2011/02/storage-effect/seagate-goflex-to-adapt-to-apples-thunderbolt-technology/ “When Seagate first introduced the GoFlex line of external hard drives in 2010, it was with the foresight and understanding that technology changes are rapid, including those associated with data transfer interfaces and external hard drives. To address this growing and evolving need for more data and faster performance, Seagate GoFlex storage devices were purpose-built to enable people with the ability to adapt to the introduction of new technologies such as LightPeak/Thunderbolt, announced this week by Apple and Intel. By virtue of an interchangeable interface and support for the new Universal Storage Module (USM) standard, GoFlex owners can take advantage of newer, faster interfaces by simply swapping the cable or adapter of their existing GoFlex drive; all without the hassle of copying or migrating their data. Seagate will support LightPeak/Thunderbolt, with products available within the calendar year. ” No idea if the price will be $20 like the other bases. Re: Another reason to purchase the GoFlex drives. Thunderbolt bases this year - jdc - 03-17-2011 I think the FW800 one was originally $50 -- but its now $25 or less a bunch of places. Guess $50 isnt bad? Im saving all my pennies for a 27" iMac with the i7 Sandy Bridge/Thunderbolt that should be out soon. Really hope my 24" 2.4 C2D iMac might only be worth the $850 mac2sell gives it. Re: Another reason to purchase the GoFlex drives. Thunderbolt bases this year - pinkoos - 03-17-2011 That's cool. I've got one of those drives with the FW800 base, though I don't have a Thunderbolt-equipped Mac. Looking forward to see what the pricing will be. Re: Another reason to purchase the GoFlex drives. Thunderbolt bases this year - thermarest - 03-17-2011 Maybe a good way to leverage an expensive Thunderbolt do-dad and use it with numerous drives. But this reminds me, I gotta get one of those $20 fw800 thingys. Re: Another reason to purchase the GoFlex drives. Thunderbolt bases this year - Jimmypoo - 03-17-2011 It won't matter. They don't make anything that's fast enough to saturate a SATA-I bus, let alone anything faster. Re: Another reason to purchase the GoFlex drives. Re: Another reason to purchase the GoFlex drives. Thunderbolt bases this year - silvarios - 03-17-2011 How expensive are the seagate GoFlex drives themselves? Are the cases easy to crack open for swapping drives? Re: Another reason to purchase the GoFlex drives. Thunderbolt bases this year - Microman - 03-17-2011 Bought a 2 tb Goflex Desktop drive at Costco last month for $99 after 20 or 30 off. Re: Another reason to purchase the GoFlex drives. I posted a deal on a 3TB USB 3 GoFlex for $150, + $20 FW800 foot = $170, not horrible for a 3TB drive |
