Brita filter: clogged already? - space-time - 03-30-2011

I replace my Brita filters about every 4 weeks (not 8 like they recommend) since we use the pitcher a lot.

Last time I replaced it about a week ago, and like usual it flows faster and gets slower over time. But this one, one week later, it's already clogged, the water barely drips. It takes 10-15 minutes for one refill to flow through. WTF??? defective filter? contaminated water?

Please report your estimated distance from Fukushima and I will offer an opinion on contamination.

We probably replace our Brita filters every 16 weeks instead of 8 and even then we usually only have to wait 5 minutes or less. We're pretty high-volume users as well. By week 12 or so I wonder if we're filtering out much but the water still tastes better than tap.

I don't see how the filters would clog but i'm no britaspert.

the capacity of the filter depends on how much it has to filter. I get about 16 weeks as well.

You may have gotten a bad filter. Also, if it has a lot of air trapped inside, it won't flow properly.

probably disturbed delivery mechanism

you really don't want to run a camera up your water pipes

you'd start using a Brita filter

How turbid is your water? The Brita isn't designed to filter sediment. If your water has a lot of sediment in it then you should get a sediment prefilter.

like I said, usually they last much longer. I follow the same procedure to exchange it (soak it, during this time I wash the pitcher). I have not noticed any sediments, but who knows, maybe there were sediments at some point and I have not paid attention. I will probably replace it again soon

I replaced the faucet with a new one, about 4-5 month ago.
