Classic CraigsList spammer and their "Paypal" email - tuqqer - 04-25-2011 Selling a neighbor's 13" new MacBook Pro on CraigsList and got what I felt was a spammer's email, asking in that weird spammer English that he'd send money to Paypal, blah, blah. I decided to see what spammers' methods were like these days, so I responded and said, sure, here's my Paypal link, go ahead and pay. Ten minutes later, I get what looks like a Paypal email, saying voilĂ , a bunch of money just landed in my Paypal account. And easy slide to Mail's View Menu: Message: Long Headers reveals that it's obviously not from Paypal. (see image below). Still. I can see how some people get caught by this stuff. If I had the time, I'd play with him a bit more, and muck up his day. Chances are, though, they know when they're caught, and I'd only waste my time. http://i.imgur.com/sVOo7.jpg ![]() Re: Classic CraigsList spammer and their "Paypal" email - decay - 04-25-2011 ![]() love the TM after the transaction ID ![]() Re: Classic CraigsList spammer and their "Paypal" email - tuqqer - 04-25-2011 I liked the customer service email, to mail2world.com Re: Classic CraigsList spammer and their "Paypal" email - DavidS - 04-25-2011 Send a fake email from Fedex with a tracking number. (I already sent a "you're an idiot" response back). Re: Classic CraigsList spammer and their "Paypal" email - Carnos Jax - 04-25-2011 Get them to send you a pre-paid shipping label, and send them a box of rocks. Re: Classic CraigsList spammer and their "Paypal" email - AllGold - 04-25-2011 Where is the link to login to the scammer's fake Paypal site? Without that, wouldn't anyone just login to their Paypal account and see there is no money there? That must be too complicated for them. Re: Classic CraigsList spammer and their "Paypal" email - tuqqer - 04-25-2011 AllGold wrote: The logo and other normal places don't link anywhere. Only his email address was hotlinked to anything. And you're right, of course: most savvy people would just log into their account to verify if the money was actually there. But from first hand experience, if the volume of sales is large, you generally don't check each payment to see if it landed. I think that's where they're making their money: the one-in-1000 that don't check it and simply mail the item. What blows my mind, though, is: given the well-known bad name that Nigeria has, how could anyone send anything to anyone in Nigeria? The name alone now just screams scam.
