Adding USB 2.0 to a g4 tower. What pci card do you recommend? - weapon - 04-25-2011 Just wondering if others have a preference in card. I have seen them as cheap as $4.50 or as expensive as $30. I would like a good reliable on for around $10. With no known hard sleep problems or other issues. Thanks. Re: Adding USB 2.0 to a g4 tower. What pci card do you recommend? - Jimmypoo - 04-25-2011 any of them have worked that I've tried back in the day. I started off with the $120 one from Orange Micro, and was ultimately adding a $9 from Belkin as well. Re: Adding USB 2.0 to a g4 tower. I would avoid any card with a Via or Ali chip. {edited to add 'Ali' as they can be flaky too} Re: Adding USB 2.0 to a g4 tower. Many sellers will post pixs of the actual card which show the chipset. ie: ![]() {yep, that's an NEC on a USB-3 card} Re: Adding USB 2.0 to a g4 tower. What pci card do you recommend? - Ted King - 04-25-2011 Be prepared for the possibility of having Sleep problems with any USB 2 cards for that computer. Just sayin'. (Having tried two different cards in my MDD 1.25Ghz that supposedly did not have the Sleep problem but did anyway.) Actually the computer would Sleep with the cards in - but not if I had devices plugged into the cards. Re: Adding USB 2.0 to a g4 tower. Just shut the G4 off when it's not in use. I have ioGear cards in my machines. |
