Need to vent: MacBook back from AC repair and won't start up - dmann - 05-19-2011

Posting from my iPhone so sorry for typos and lack of links to previous threads.

My MacBook went to the AppleCare repair center on Tuesday due to my ongoing issues. Got the computer back today and noted they replaced my logic board again (2nd time) and replaced my optical drive (which was acting flaky but wasn't part of my complaint.)

The computer will not start up. At all. Instead of the three buzzes I got with the bad RAM, now there is just one buzz that goes off and on.

Called AC and they asked me to remove the battery and unplug it, then hold down the start button for 5 seconds. then had me put the battery back in and try again. When that didn't work he said I could send it back or take it into a store. The store did the 1st logic board repair and the repair center did the 2nd. What's the lesser of 2 evils at this point??

Have a 4:30 appt at the store but I'm fully expecting the laptop to be sent out once again.

Soooooooooooooo incredibly frustrated.

So sorry about your troubles. After all you've been through I wouldn't blame you for looking beyond Apple next time around.
I don't get how they could give you back a machine that's not working.

Sorry to hear it. That sucks. Sad Only recommendation is to present yourself as more dejected than angry at the Genius Bar. Sympathy gets better results than defensiveness, in my experience.

After 3 times---there is a chance they might get you a new one----never hurts to ask.

AFTER 3 times yes - but this IS the third time...

I believe that Apple is subject to california's lemon law http://consumer-fraud-lawyer.com/id32.html

I ALWAYS take the sweet but disappointed tone when dealing with issues like this so no worries about me going in there and blowing my top.

Wish me luck.

Good luck! If you're half as charming with the Genius as you are with us on MRF, you'll be grand!

Good strategy. Mumbles about 'Lemon Laws' and "Third time's a charm' may help. Apple has certainly spent all their profit on this one in repair.

But... you still got better service than HP gave my friend... who was told "Just take the computer back and get your money back". "But I want a replacement computer ", she said. "Sorry", they said, "that will cost you more money."

The single-beep error tone means No RAM installed. I've seen reports on this forum of Apple returning machines with 3rd party RAM removed (but bagged separately), claiming that the RAM is the cause of the problem.
