just watched The American, no spoilers - lazydays - 05-29-2011
Finished it last night and I would call it one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Very different style than most current movies and George proved that he can still act rather than just being the charming boy he many times plays. I highly recommend it.

I'm sorry, but this was one of Clooney's worst movies ever. He just phoned it in. The plot had no direction, the characters were shallow and the ending was meh.
It's not just me. According to RottenTomatoes.com, only 37% of the audience liked it. I don't normally base my movie choices on reviews and critics, but this time they nailed it.
The scenery was nice but that's it.

Agree with richorlin. I had The American and Up In The Air both loaded on my iPod for a recent trip, Up In The Air was much better - I think The American got made mostly because George could stay at his villa while filming. The Ocean's movies or the one where he was the lawyer "fixer" are better, though.

Ok, but you HAD to enjoy Violante Placido's role. She is a real beauty even if you subtract the nude scenes from the movie.

Another nay vote here. The ending in particular was weak.
