OT: Annoyance of the day.. fussy parkers - cbelt3 - 06-27-2011 Today we were directing cars in a parking lot as a fundraiser for Boy Scouts. It was a local arts/crafts/music festival. The lot was full, and I was 'point' person. And people were pleasant and understanding when I smilingly explained that they would need to wait until someone else ran out of money... One wonderful gentleman and his lady arrived in a 1930 Model A ford, and I directed him to a spot up front, and promised to 'keep an eye out' on his car. And then explained what it was to the hundred or so people who paused to admire it. And then a man and his wincing wife arrived in a 90's T-Bird. I directed him to a spot up front. "I don't want that spot. It's too close to the other cars". I then courteously directed him to a spot right next to the Model A. "Can I park in the middle of two spaces ?" After he was politely rebuffed twice in his rude demands to park improperly, he drove into the back of the lot and proceeded to place himself in a spot on a gravel drive that we were not supposed to park people on. And was rude to my 13 year old son who tried to point him away from the spot. I found myself tempted to surround his "baby" with rusty beaters and juvenile delinquents. Or wishing for a sudden flock of incontinent seagulls that I could direct over there. What IS it with some people ? Re: OT: Annoyance of the day.. fussy parkers - RAMd®d - 06-27-2011 This is the age of entitlement. Don't be ridiculous. There have always been people who are overly demanding about their vehicles, taking them out into public space and wanting special treatment. It'd be terrible if they came back and there was a long scrape down the side of their car... You didn't let the air out of any of his tires? And there have always been vandals who felt similarly entitled. The Age of Entitlement has existed through the ages and apparently has no signs of letting up. I'm just sayin'. Re: OT: Annoyance of the day.. fussy parkers - Wags - 06-27-2011 First thing I do when I get a new car is go out and put a ding in the door. Saves all that hassle of parking in the lower forty and fretting about perfection. |
