Josh Hamilton talks about Shannon Stone’s death
By 'Duk

One day after being part of the tragic accident that resulted in Shannon Stone's death, Texas Rangers star Josh Hamilton(notes) returned to work with a heavy heart.
The All-Star left fielder said he watched "in slow motion" as the 39-year-old Stone fell nearly 20 feet after Hamilton routinely tossed him a ball in the left-field stands during the second inning of Thursday's game. Stone later died from his injuries on his way to the hospital and, like the rest of us, Hamilton was left searching for answers to the senseless tragedy.

Yes, it's tragic, haikuman. It's also accidental. Let's hope nothing more comes of it, and pray for the families.

It must be horrible for the six year old kid who's lost his father.

"...Hamilton was left searching for answers to the senseless tragedy."

What a worthless line. There are no answers; the man lost his balance & fell to his death. It was an accident.

kind of cold, DaviDC. i think if this happened to me i would be reflecting and searching for answers even if the questions were unanswerable. just because an event is an accident doesn't mean your heart can blow it off.

I've often wondered watching the games how there wasn't, at this point, high fencing and/or safety netting under those areas of the bleachers. Odds on by next season insurance will force the issue finally.

When I first heard the story, I locked on to what the man's first post fall words were, telling everyone around that his little boy was alone in the bleachers, please go look for him.

And I really feel for Josh Hamilton; he's going to be re-living that moment for the rest of his life.

I think the comment relates more to the press milking the pathos of the situation. Sometimes the press belabors the emotional content of a story so much that they are producing trauma-porn rather than serious reportage.
