It's alive! ReplayTV gets a reprieve. DNNA keeps program guide alive. - Ken Sp. - 08-01-2011 While hooking up my new $99 Logitech Revue GoogleTV (More on that in my next post), I switched to my ReplayTV for a last blast, and surprise! The channel guide was due to end tonight, but it will not shut off now! http://www.digitalnetworksna.com/replaytv/ After the announced shutdown of the ReplayTV programming guide service, we have had many positive, enthusiastic comments about the ReplayTV DVR products and services. In light of this response, ReplayTV and its parent company Digital Networks North America, Inc. have decided to continue the electronic programming guide service pursuant to the terms of your service activation agreement. We thank you very much for all of your support and enthusiasm over the many years these products have been sold. As we have said previously, the analog programming that the ReplayTV units are capable of recording is in fact likely to be converted to digital signals in the very near future at which point the ReplayTV units will no longer be able to record such programming. We encourage our users to consider digital video recorders that have this digital recording capability as well as additional technological advances which are not a part of the ReplayTV units (all of which were end of lifed by 2006). For monthly subscribers of the ReplayTV service, we are exploring options by which you may continue paying for and receiving such service going forward. We apologize in advance should there be any minor disruptions in the ReplayTV service while we implement the continuation of the programming guide. Thank you. ReplayTV Re: It's alive! That's interesting wording, almost sounds like someone threatened legal action. Re: It's alive! ReplayTV gets a reprieve. DNNA keeps program guide alive. - olnacl - 08-01-2011 And the real bummer is: I have 2 friends with RTVs; one is well to do and offered to buy one of my TiVoHDs with lifetime and the other is just the opposite of well to do, so I bought a lifetime series 2 TiVo from a seller on Amazon to give her (I paid about half of what I would get for the TiVoHD). Now neither are needed and instead of 1 unused TiVo HD being sold I now have 4. (I have two others - just stopped watching TV in the bedroom so the third became redundant). In both cases, I originally gave the RTVs to the respective friends when I bought the TiVos. Talk about poor planning and/or no good deed going unpunished! Re: It's alive! ReplayTV gets a reprieve. DNNA keeps program guide alive. - Bill in NC - 08-01-2011 Replay owners did contact their state AG's office & others threatened small claims actions (though I'm still not sure who they would file against or where) Looking at the forums a bunch of people decided to give away or otherwise trash their Replays. Couple that with how picky Replay models are as to what PATA hard drives (only certain older models) will work (adapters for SATA drives don't work either) the hardware itself won't last indefinitely. I bet they could do this again in a year and not worry about the backlash. Re: It's alive! ReplayTV gets a reprieve. DNNA keeps program guide alive. - volcs0 - 08-01-2011 Thanks for the info. I have a few of these still - was going to give one to my father-in-law to introduce him to the concept of the DVR. Re: It's alive! ReplayTV gets a reprieve. DNNA keeps program guide alive. - Speedy - 08-01-2011 I read that the other day. Happy, happy!! Re: It's alive! ReplayTV gets a reprieve. DNNA keeps program guide alive. - leedef - 08-02-2011 I have 3 ReplayTV units, all attached to DirecTV satellite receivers via Patterson Technology's USB TV Translators (http://www.patersontech.com/) and S-Video cables. Works fantastic, with the channels automatically being changed by the ReplayTVs. Not quite HD, but a whole lot sharper than analog (more like DVD quality). Very glad to hear I might get a few more years out of them! |
