something is ROTTEN in the state of Denmark [it XTINCTS (something STINKS)]?!.....FREE checking soon to become eXTINCT?! - NewtonMP2100 - 10-06-2011 ....raised the minimum to $15,000 in total accounts or you will be charged $20/month (minimum used to be $6,000).... .....we bailed them out and now this....I never banked with Citibank anyway but they can now eat my shorts......!!! Citi announces new fees on checking accounts .....The fees keep coming. Citi is the latest big bank to slap customers with a round of fee hikes. This time, on its checking accounts. Starting in December, customers who hold its mid-level Citibank Account will be charged $20 a month if they fail to maintain a minimum balance of $15,000 in their combined accounts. Previously, account holders had to carry a minimum balance of $6,000. At the same time, customers who have the bank's EZ Checking account will start being charged $15 a month if they don't carry a minimum balance of $6,000. Citi © says it is phasing out the EZ Checking package, which currently carries no monthly fee for balances over $1,500, and is instead offering customers either the Citibank Account or its Basic Banking account, which also carries a fee. Last month, Citi said it is hiking the fee on its Basic Banking account from $8 to $10. Customers will be able to avoid paying the $10 fee by either maintaining a minimum balance of $1,500 or by making one direct deposit and one automatic online payment through their checking account each month, said Citi. Currently, account holders must make five transactions per month in order to avoid paying the fee and there is no minimum balance requirement. Citi's fee hikes come just days after Bank of America announced it would charge a $5 fee for debit card purchases. Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase, Sun Trust and Regions Financial have all also rolled out similar fees in select markets in recent weeks..... GREED.....is good....?! Re: something is ROTTEN in the state of Denmark [it XTINCTS (something STINKS)]?!.....FREE checing soon to be eXTINCT?!. - graylocks - 10-06-2011 but look on the bright side, they are the one major bank that said they would not institute a fee for using a debit card. (and now we know why.) Re: something is ROTTEN in the state of Denmark [it XTINCTS (something STINKS)]?!.....FREE checking soon to become eXTIN - GGD - 10-06-2011 I wonder if customers could send banks notices advising them of new fees that they will charge the bank, like a fee for reading the junk mail that they send, a fee for proper disposal/recycling of said junk mail, etc. Re: something is ROTTEN in the state of Denmark [it XTINCTS (something STINKS)]?!.....FREE checking soon to become eXTIN - Chakravartin - 10-06-2011 I moved my accounts the last time that a bank started charging for their previously "free" checking. The debit card usage charge was the deciding factor. Re: something is ROTTEN in the state of Denmark [it XTINCTS (something STINKS)]?!.....FREE checking soon to become eXTIN - GeneL - 10-06-2011 I'm going to look into a local credit union. I wonder if they offer the equivalent of B of A's Bill Pay? As far as B of A, it will be interesting to see if they leave their previously free direct deposit checking accounts alone, as far as fees. I use my debit card all the time. Haven't used a check since the beginning of 2007. :boink: Bad banks! No! no! :nono: Re: something is ROTTEN in the state of Denmark [it XTINCTS (something STINKS)]?!.....FREE checking soon to become eXTIN - Chakravartin - 10-06-2011 DaviDC. wrote: Precious few banks consider such things. Re: something is ROTTEN in the state of Denmark [it XTINCTS (something STINKS)]?!.....FREE checking soon to become eXTIN - trisho. - 10-06-2011 Credit unions may be okay for most folks, but I tend to travel a lot and it's to not rack up ATM fees that way. I'm currently in Brussels and guess what? There's a major Citibank here (that's my home bank in the U.S.). I'm one of the people they're going to start charging $15 per month for EZ Checking. I may be moving to another bank when I get back to the US. I say "may" because of the travel issue. As far as evil goes, Citibank was the least evil compared to BoA and Chase and I've had them for 10 years, since I moved to NYC. The other banks are well represented around the globe but they are way the hell more evil, what with BoA screwing over homeowners in their mortgages and Chase doing the same and being an old slavery-funded bank. Citi may have me over a barrel in this case. One other option may be ING's online checking. I'd have to see how their features are. Does anybody use them for checking? I have their regular online savings accounts and briefly thought about their checking account when it debuted a couple of years ago. |
