some aurora photos from last night's event - decay - 10-26-2011 copied from a friend who worked on Hubble: So that phenomenal aurora we had last night was caused by a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) from the sun. That is, a huge cloud of ionized gas was blasted from the sun faster than two million mph. Even at that speed, the cloud took nearly two days to travel all the way to earth. The animated gif shows the CME blasting off the sun and heading right toward us! ![]() photos here! http://spaceweather.com/aurora/gallery_01oct11.htm Re: some aurora photos from last night's event - freeradical - 10-26-2011 It's a very good thing that the Earth has a magnetic field.
