Suggestions for handling Apple ID/iTunes in a divorce? - stephen - 11-26-2011 Trying to help a family member whose final divorce is this week. Dad is a relative of mine. They will share joint custody of a son. She took the iPad that I gave them with her when she moved out. There are extensive song and app purchases on the iPad - the songs primarily for Mom and the apps mostly for the child. Meanwhile, it's all linked to Dad's email address, which is currently the Apple ID. In addition, I anticipate buying Dad another iPad for Christmas to replace the one that walked. Clearly this is tricky. I want the kid to be able to enjoy his games and purchase more at either home. But I'm absolutely certain Dad has no interest in financing his ex-wife's music library in coming years. Any ideas or resources I might turn them on to? Re: Suggestions for handling Apple ID/iTunes in a divorce? - JPK - 11-26-2011 Wow, how to handle the iTunes account seems pretty trivial when talking about a divorce involving a kid? Wish I had something constructive to offer! Re: Suggestions for handling Apple ID/iTunes in a divorce? - John B. - 11-26-2011 Since Dad in this case was the account owner, can't he change the password or perhaps the e-mail address associated with the account, and/or de-authorize the current iPad device? Existing songs/games would be there, but the account couldn't be used to buy new ones without the new password? Re: Suggestions for handling Apple ID/iTunes in a divorce? - Ombligo - 11-26-2011 Burn the music to discs (or an external HD), give all to the wife and help her set up her own iTunes account. Transfer the copied music to her itunes. Erase same from husband's itune account. Husband uses the existing account while wife uses a new account . Problem likely solved. Re: Suggestions for handling Apple ID/iTunes in a divorce? - 3d - 11-26-2011 Change all the passwords immediately. The mom can splurge for a few 99cent apps for the kid. Don't worry about it. Just copy the iTunes folder to an external drive and delete all preferences, etc. She can reimport if she wants to, or not.
