Please recommend wireless router - Mactel - 11-26-2011 So my original Airport Express is constantly having issues now where it has to be reset all the time due to connection time out errors. I have to restore the firmware a lot and think it's time to replace it. I like AirTunes but can give that up. What routers do you guys recommend? Re: Please recommend wireless router - IronMac - 11-26-2011 RTF. Re: Please recommend wireless router - WHiiP - 11-26-2011 The simplest and bestest would be the Airport Extreme, but you do pay for it's sweetness... Worth it to me. Re: Please recommend wireless router - numbered - 11-26-2011 You might STF for the regular discussions. It depends on the features (e.g., you mentioned Airplay, also dual band? or n?) you want. I hope this is a fair summary: --Get the new generation Airport Extreme. Simple, easily configured, set and forget. But expensive. or --the Netgear WNDR3700b. Current "winner" on a few review sites and people have had good success. Good range. Fast. $100. (Can run dd-wrt.) or --Asus models that can run dd-wrt or tomato firmware. Asus seems to have good hardware, and many are fans of the firmware mentioned above. RT-n15 ($70) or the RT-n12 ($40) have been mentioned. --Older standbys included Buffalos, DLinks (especially the DIR-655 which is still available for $70 or so), or the venerable WRT54GL. Re: Please recommend wireless router - Black - 11-26-2011 My Asus RT-N12 has been fine. If you check the Black Friday thread there was some router listed for $13 but it may have been a one-day only thing. Re: Please recommend wireless router - testcase - 11-27-2011 Have you looked at the Pepwave Surf Mini? Only B / G (no N) but, the unit I've been using for about two years has been rock solid. Here's a link to a head to head shootout with two other models: http://www.evdoinfo.com/content/view/3792/179/ Re: Please recommend wireless router - Michael - 11-27-2011 Two weeks ago my router died and I needed one "right now." I bought this Netgear at Walmart for $35. It works like a champ. http://www.walmart.com/ip/NETGEAR-WGR614-Wireless-G-54Mbps-Broadband-Router/2304416 Re: Please recommend wireless router - mattkime - 11-27-2011 Nice summary! numbered wrote: Re: Please recommend wireless router - graylocks - 11-27-2011 Michael wrote: had that NetGear for a number of years. when it died i bought another one. despite all i've read here about routers, i can't figure out why i'd need to spend more when this does everything i need in a router. Re: Please recommend wireless router - Forrest - 11-27-2011 I've also been using the Netgear WGR614 for about 3 years - still works fine. |
