Decent replacement for LG enV3?? - john-o - 11-30-2011 My wife is a bit of a Luddite. She's been using #2 daughter's cast off enV3 for about 18 months now (it was probably already a year old when she took it over), and it's starting to show its age. I'd like to get her a new phone for Christmas, but what she really wants is something very similar to what she has, so she doesn't have to learn a whole new interface. She definitely doesn't need a smart phone either... So, I've been surfing on ebay, and the enV VX9900 seems like a decent option. Anyone here use LG's at all and care to weigh in? I know, I know, this question is almost beneath the vast majority of folks here, but she really doesn't want anything at all different from what she's been using. Oh, and her favorite part is the full keyboard for texting with her daughters... Anyway, thanks for any suggestions you might have! John Re: Decent replacement for LG enV3?? - Black - 11-30-2011 I just switched from an LG VX8360 to an LG Octane. As near as I can figure out it's almost exactly like the env3. Just recently discontinued I think? http://www.ebay.com/sch/Cell-Phones-Smartphones-/9355/i.html?_nkw=LG+Octane&_catref=1&_dmpt=PDA_Accessories&_trksid=p3286.c0.m1538 Re: Decent replacement for LG enV3?? - john-o - 11-30-2011 Thanks Black, I'd looked at an Octane in a store, but it was too pricey. All those on ebay include a contract, so no go... I'll keep looking! Re: Decent replacement for LG enV3?? - Black - 11-30-2011 john-o wrote: I bought mine at http://www.cowboom.com- $69.99. You could tell it wasn't new but it could have reasonably been described as being in "like new" condition. They're showing 3 right now but they're all kind of dogs (missing battery cover, no charger, etc.). They replenish stock frequently so tomorrow could be another story. Re: Decent replacement for LG enV3?? - john-o - 11-30-2011 Hmmm, didn't know about cowboom... I'll keep an eye out there, for sure! Thanks!! Re: Decent replacement for LG enV3?? - Black - 11-30-2011 Here's an article that relates it to the env3. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2373902,00.asp The voice issues described by the reviewer have since been fixed with a firmware update. Re: Decent replacement for LG enV3?? - silvarios - 11-30-2011 My problem with buying "feature phones" is the cost. Smartphones now cost the same amount. Not the iPhone 4S or the Galaxy Nexus obviously, but if you slide down market there are plenty of phones to choose from in the $100 range, sometime less (as with the Pixi Plus deals for $50 or less). Re: Decent replacement for LG enV3?? - Grateful11 - 11-30-2011 We all had LG Env3's until about a year ago, my wife chose an LG Octane, she wishes she would have kept one the the Env3's and kept using it. The Octane isn't near the phone an Env3 was. She pretty much overall completely dislikes it, there's something that doesn't show up on the outside screen when she gets a text or a call, don't remember what it is. The texting is different in how it handles words or something and it feels cheaply constructed. I guess I know why we had no trouble getting good money for the Env3's on eBay. My oldest son had to have his replaced earlier at full price because his was stolen out of his car. He chose an LG slider, not sure which one but he liked it better than my wife's Octane. He has Jesse's iPhone now, for a long time he wouldn't use it but he's ok with it now. If her current Env3 is still working ine I'd keep using it. When my wife wakes up I'll try to remember to ask ht he main differences are. Re: Decent replacement for LG enV3?? - Black - 11-30-2011 silvarios wrote: I'm not sure what your point is. Verizon doesn't let you use a smartphone with a non-data plan, and my bills are usually $46-- why would I want to double that if it works for me?
