Odd Panic - BCam - 12-12-2011 I've been getting Kernal Panics lately, especially when 13" MBP (Snow Leopard) is crunching video from online source (CNN, MSNBC, etc). Tried to do a "Verify Permissions" and "Repair Permissions" only to get "Error: Permissions verify or repair failed" note. Tried to start up with the 10.6 install disk to use its Disk Utility, and got the dreaded graying of screen and forced restart instruction. Thoughts? Suggestions? Genius Bar time? TiA. Re: Odd Panic - modelamac - 12-12-2011 Try booting in Safe mode(hold Shift at startup sound until progress bar), then restart normally. If that doesn't work, try booting from your backup drive (hold Option at startup sound). Re: Odd Panic - macbeergeek2 - 12-12-2011 Did you try doing a "Safe Boot" (hold the shift key on Restart)? That will cause Disk Utility to run in the background and automatically repair anything it's able to. Re: Odd Panic - lazydays - 12-12-2011 That's funny. I get a completely different kind of panic... Tried to do a "Verify Permissions" and "Repair Permissions" only to get "Error: Permissions verify or repair failed" note. You may have file system damage. Before you try to repair permissions, use Disk Utility to repair your start-up volume or simply perform a Safe Boot followed immediately by a normal start-up. |
