ITunes - jumps to next song after playing only a few seconds - h linamen - 12-15-2011
Anyone else have this problem. A random number of my songs in iTunes will play a few seconds and then just jump to the next tune for no apparent reason. Suggestions? I'm using iTunes version 10.4.1

Listening on what device? What kind of source material?
I used to get that when I tried to listen to AIFF files on my iPod. Apple Lossless worked well, so I went with that for stuff from my CD collection.

I had this same problem until I turned off "shake to shuffle".

That would be a fun feature for iTunes. Those of us with minis could sneer at the 27" iMac crowd as we brag about how cool it is.

I've experienced this off and on over the years and to my best recollection it's been a case of a few bad files.

A random number of tunes, but it's consistently the same tracks that are truncated?
Try opening a few of the problem-files in the QuickTime Player. If they have the same problem when played outside of iTunes then the files are corrupt.
...and yeah, verify your drive with the Disk Utility.

I don't understand. My iTunes library is loaded on my 24" iMac. I have done "repair permissions" in the Disk Utility, also just loaded the software update to iTunes version 10.5.2 and the problem still exists. As suggested, I opened some of the problem songs in QuickTime player and they played just fine, so it wouldn't seem to be corrupted song files.

Have you looked at the song info for those in question- there is a setting for where to start and end playback within iTunes that may have somehow been changed.
You could try removing them from the iTunes library and then re-adding. Perhaps transcoding to AAC or a different format.
