"Obama goes Henry VIII on the church" - Grace62 - 02-11-2012 Don't agree with this guy, but his writing is pretty entertaining. http://www.ocregister.com/opinion/church-339789-one-catholic.html "The president of the United States has decided to go Henry VIII on the Church's medieval ass. Whatever religious institutions might profess to believe in the matter of "women's health," their pre-eminences, jurisdictions, privileges, authorities and immunities are now subordinate to a one-and-only supreme head on earth determined to repress, redress, restrain and amend their heresies. One wouldn't wish to overextend the analogy..." (on no, please continue!) Re: "Obama goes Henry VIII on the church" - Ted King - 02-11-2012 Someone you may generally agree with that you might also find entertaining (in a pugnacious sort of way): http://www.theygaveusarepublic.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=10109 Cue the cries from the Tridentine hair-shirt wearers that Sister Carol has "sold out her faith" and even that she "needs to learn her place" -- they will be singing the same off-key tune they sang when she supported healthcare reform two years ago, going against the Bishops that time, too. Now, like then, she was right and they were wrong. And rank-and-file Catholics know it. Particularly liked: That bond was formed the day my daughter wore her uniform to school on free-dress day. I caught a glimpse of her in the back seat as she was buckling up and asked her why she was wearing her uniform on free-dress day. She was all of nine years old, and she replied matter-of-factly that "Anna's Daddy won't let her wear regular clothes to school and the other kids tease her. I thought maybe if I wore mine today, they would be nicer to her." (For the record, that moment, right there, made every minute of 29-years-and-counting of parenting worth everything it has or ever will cost -- emotionally, physically, financially and in lost sleep.) Kind of unfortunate sidebar ads . . . guess you've got to be a "sugar daddy" looking for "mutually beneficial arrangements" if you're reading an article with multiple instances of the word "women." (edit: Matt beat me . . .) Re: "Obama goes Henry VIII on the church" - Grace62 - 02-11-2012 I wasn't going to mention it, but is that lady a mechanic or a chauffeur or what? Oh and she forgot her clothes. |
