"(Rabbi Abraham Cooper of the Simon Wiesenthal Center) called the actions "unacceptable," saying that people who lost everyone and everything and were murdered for being Jewish during the Holocaust should not have their souls hijacked by another religion." http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/blogsfaithblog/53515341-180/church-wiesel-baptisms-romney.html.csp Re: Mitt gets Mormons to apologize for posthumous baptisms of Jews - cbelt3 - 02-15-2012 It's actually kind of funny that they have this weird process so people can get around the Angel Moroni's "Rules" about being 'related' for membership. Reminds me of that 13th tribe of David thingy. Re: Mitt gets Mormons to apologize for posthumous baptisms of Jews - Chakravartin - 02-15-2012 The posthumous baptisms were performed in Mormon churches in Utah, Arizona, and Idaho... The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in its written apology, suggested that the action was the work of one member... Man, that guy gets around. Re: Mitt gets Mormons to apologize for posthumous baptisms of Jews - Black - 02-15-2012 I can't help but find it entertaining that the Mormons seem to want in on jewdom. Much better than some sort of edict to kill us . . . It's a custom that to my mind is the ultimate disrespect to another's religion (or non-religion.) Sort of like, well you weren't fortunate enough to be Mormon on earth so we'll correct that for you now that you're dead, so that you can go to our "Kingdom of God." I can't say there's a place on my "things that bother me" list for it. I get someone preaching their religion in my face, with blatant disregard for the fact that I may already have a belief system that works for me, for extended periods pretty much every day. Would be fine if they would wait until I was dead to dump their crap on me. I can tell them to shut up but they might stop coming to therapy, and some of them really need it. Some people feel uncomfortable with silence and just try to fill it with whatever. If you steer them onto something else I bet they'll go willingly. Re: Mitt gets Mormons to apologize for posthumous baptisms of Jews - Dennis S - 02-15-2012 I remember hearing of a Jewish boy who visited his Baptist friends for a day and when the Baptist mom took him home, she told the Jewish mom her boy "accidentally" got baptized. |
