Romney's "Made in Detroit" ad? He's driving a Chrysler made in Canada - Grace62 - 02-15-2012

Oops. The red Chrysler 300 that Romney is driving in this "Made in Detroit" ad is made in Ontario, Canada. Normally we Americans don't worry too much about which factory assembled our cars, knowing that parts come from all over.

But to the people who work in the factories, it's a very big deal.

Can this campaign get anything right?

It's OK. Politicians are knuckleheads.

A few years ago the then Ohio governor visited our factory to take credit for all our hard work (it's what politicians do !). He and his advance team were all driving Mitsubishi SUV's. Sure, they were assembled in a plant in Ohio.

Then a few days ago the current Ohio governor visited our factory. He and his people were all driving Chevy's. Assembled in Ohio. Engines made in Ohio. Radios probably made in China, but hey...

And of course those American flag pins that they HAVE to have ?

All made in China. :jest:

OK interesting but neither of those posts have much to do with the OP.

People get paid big bucks to produce political spots. They are supposed to pay attention to details, especially the important details directly related to the candidate's message and to the intended audience.
In this case it's voters in Michigan. This very car, the Chrysler 300, made headlines and was the subject of a controversy just a few months ago when Chrysler made a false "made in the USA" claim about this specific car in an ad.

Can the people who write Romney's ads use the Google?

Is that a picture of McCain's not made-in-America campaign bus?

I think that is the POTUS bus. But no claims were made that the bus was made in the US, just complaints when it was used that it wasn't by opponents.

This ad is incredibly deceptive. In fact, it is likely not even Romney's car at all.

You will notice that the Chrysler in question does NOT have a dog crate mounted to the roof.

That pic has everything to do with your selective outrage.

Your error here Trouble is that Grace's topic was ineptitude of the the Romney team - NOT that they were driving a non-USA built auto...

but I'd suggest that since it's a discussion forum, any reply goes... it adds to the discussion (in theory)

Not really. Remember that Obama was on the "American Jobs Tour." http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2011/10/mccain-blasts-obama-for-using-a-canadian-bus-for-american-jobs-tour/

If you want another example, here is Labor Secretary Hilda Solis driving a foreign car. http://www.usnews.com/news/washington-whispers/articles/2011/08/31/obama-labor-boss-buys-canadian-built-car

Grace is just being petty and using selective outrage when she thinks she can get a shot in. Petty.
