Adding OS9 along with OS X on flat panel iMac? - h linamen - 03-07-2012 I have a 15" iMac flat panel (articulating) iMac running OS X Panther. Can I install OS 9.1 on the same computer so we can alternately use older children's educational apps? Somewhere I was told they do not have to be on separate partitions, but to do a clean install and they will co-exist. If we then insert an OS 9 app does it just automatically open in classic or does one need to restart using the OS 9 operating system and then have to restart again to go back to OS X apps? If the above is possible, I will need to find and buy an OS 9.1 disk. I already have a 9.2 upgrade disk, but it requires 9.1 to be already loaded. Re: Adding OS9 along with OS X on flat panel iMac? - davec - 03-07-2012 h linamen- do you know if the hard drive was formatted to include the OS 9 drivers? If not, I believe you will need to reformat the drive using Disk Utility and making sure to checkmark the box to include OS 9 disc drivers. No you do not need a separate partition for OS 9. Many (most) of your classic (OS 9) titles may run fine under classic, which means you would not need to reboot into OS 9. Many classic apps will automatically open into Classic when you start them. A few may need to be told to open in the Classic Environment (click on app> get info>checkmark open in Classic Environment). Good Luck! Dave Re: Adding OS9 along with OS X on flat panel iMac? - mstudio - 03-07-2012 I don't think the box had to be checked if you just want to run Classic. If you want to boot into 9, yes, the drivers need to be installed. Re: Adding OS9 along with OS X on flat panel iMac? - Buzz - 03-08-2012 IIRC, only the first gen iLamps could run OS 9 natively... and that it required 9.2.x, so not sure that the 9.1 intermediary will work. Classic should work up thru Tiger on that puppy. /// Re: Adding OS9 along with OS X on flat panel iMac? - h linamen - 03-08-2012 Thanks for all the info folks.... but, I'm still a little confused. Don't know if the hard drive was formatted to include OS9 drivers. Though, if I just want apps to run in classic on Panther, can I just install OS 9.1 and then upgrade to 9.2.2?
