Applecare for iPad change - Sam3 - 03-08-2012 Apple no longer offers Applecare for the iPad. This is being replaced on March 16th with Applecare+, which will cost $20 more at a price of $99. Applecare+ includes two breakage incidents, but each breakage will cost you $50.00 additional. Also, it seems that the new Applecare+ can only be purchased within 30 days of the iPad purchase, no more buying it 364 days after your iPad purchase. This is pretty sad. I ran across this information because I was looking for a cheap Applecare iPad for my iPad 1, which was purchased in the summer. I can't find any Applecare available for my iPad from Apple anymore. I don't understand the 30 days after purchase limitation. If 1 year is good for any other Apple product, then why is the iPad being shortened? Re: Applecare for iPad change - clay - 03-08-2012 it's the same as applecare+ for the iphone that changed with the introduction of the 4s. Re: Applecare for iPad change - Gareth - 03-08-2012 Sam3 wrote: Because of the accidental breakage coverage. Let's say they offered it anytime during the first year. Well, many people would not bother buying it until the end of the year, or UNTIL THEY BREAK THE iPAD. So, Apple would have to mandate that everyone bring in their iPad to the Apple Store to verify its working condition in order to sell you AppleCare+ in order to prevent fraud. Limiting you to a 30 day window avoids this inconvenience and cuts down on "fraudulent" purchases. Re: Applecare for iPad change - steve... - 03-08-2012 I received an email from SquareTrade today that might be helpful... ![]() The email's link goes here, but I don't think that's the discount referred to in the email. ![]() Re: Applecare for iPad change - Sam3 - 03-08-2012 Gareth wrote: Because of the accidental breakage coverage. The iPad is quite portable and can easily be brought into a store for verification. But what can I do with my current iPad? Am I out of luck, just because I waited until now, half a year after I got my iPad? Re: Applecare for iPad change - decay - 03-08-2012 Square Trade: "Coverage only available for iPads bought in the past 30 days." Or did Apple ever sell the Applecare for iPad as a physical box (like they do for MacBooks for example). I am not sure, but if they did, you should be able to find one on eBay or LA Computer company, B&H, Small Dog Electronics, etc. Good luck either way. Re: Applecare for iPad change - GGD - 03-08-2012 You can order it from Amazon right now. http://www.amazon.com/AppleCare-Protection-Plan-NEWEST-VERSION/dp/B0044SVD50 Re: Applecare for iPad change - Sam3 - 03-08-2012 GGD wrote: Thanks. What is the difference between that one and this one? http://www.amazon.com/Apple-iPad-AppleCare-Protection-Plan/dp/B0040HLM5G/ref=pd_cp_pc_3 I did first look at B&H and they said that you have to call them, I assumed that meant that Applecare was no longer available because of the Applecare+. For some reason it didn't occur to me to look at Amazon. Oops.
