Dumb question-- how do you get the MacOS search feature to work? - Black - 03-13-2012 Search feature finds barely anything, no matter which of the confusing buttons I try (this mac vs. whatever.) I suppose it's possible I've turned off indexing, but I can't find a way to turn it back on. Snow Leopard. Almost any help appreciated. Re: Dumb question-- how do you get the MacOS search feature to work? - C(-)ris - 03-13-2012 Go to system preferences and then spotlight. Click on the Privacy tab. Anything in there is not indexed. To reindex a drive, drag it into the privacy tab, then remote it. Spotlight should reindex. There is also some terminal commands to force the reindex as well if that doesn't work. Re: Dumb question-- how do you get the MacOS search feature to work? - decay - 03-13-2012 or try EasyFind. it's great, and the icon is a fuzzy squirrel. http://www.devontechnologies.com/products/freeware.html Re: Dumb question-- how do you get the MacOS search feature to work? - Black - 03-13-2012 C(-)ris wrote:Only my EyeTV folder in there (not even sure why.)

Done. We'll see. Thank you. That EyeTV folder might need to be in there to prevent access errors when recording video. When it is done, I would add it back to the privacy area. Re: Dumb question-- how do you get the MacOS search feature to work? - JoeH - 03-13-2012 If it is from a default install of EyeTV, that is the folder in the Application Support folder of the system Library folder. That is not the recordings location. Why Elgato sticks it in there I have no idea, nothing there that should cause any issues by being indexed by Spotlight. Re: Dumb question-- how do you get the MacOS search feature to work? - RAMd®d - 03-15-2012 Apple hides things from it's search function so the 90% of us don't go poking around where we're likely to do damage. I use Find Any File from time to time, and it finds anything that can be found. The interface is almost OS 9, but it's a very helpful app. |
