Is AIR super drive only for an AIR? - samintx - 03-29-2012 I can't believe the AIR has to have a specially build super drive...or does it? can I use this with my MacPro's? Also iPad2 ac/usb charger. Is it only for the iPad2 or just another apple adapter? Re: Is AIR super drive only for an AIR? - rz - 03-29-2012 Why not just buy a different branded "super drive" (a.k.a. a DVD burner). They're far cheaper. The iPad2 charger should work with the original iPad and the new iPad too. And probably the iPod touch and iPhone. Re: Is AIR super drive only for an AIR? - dohc76 - 03-29-2012 Technically it works with any Intel baser consumer MacBook Air or Mac Mini that did not ship with a built in optical drive running Lion or Snow Leopard Server. There are some hacks to have it work with other models that are pretty easy to do. Google is your friend in this case. Third party drives will work in many cases as well check our sponsor site. Re: Is AIR super drive only for an AIR? - samintx - 03-29-2012 I have not had very good luck with off brand external drives for my Pro's. I love the 3 old old Sony's I have that are large but have been work horses. The flimsy Amz, Samsungs etc Don't like. I'm going to do the apple. I have cash back coming from Discover so it will only cost me about 20.00 to try. I get cofused when the drives come with 2 USB connectors. Use both or just one? Re: Is AIR super drive only for an AIR? - Buzz - 03-29-2012 If you use the AIR super drive with another computer, other than a MBA, space aliens will hunt you down, then eat your children, grandchildren, and pets... so one should give serious thought as where and when the device is deployed. /// Re: Is AIR super drive only for an AIR? - samintx - 03-29-2012 Buzz wrote: I have go all MACINTOSH this spring so any super drive will be running on AIR, Macbook, MacPros or an iBook. I wouldn't think of disgracing the Super drive by connecting to anything other than a MAC ! Re: Is AIR super drive only for an AIR? - decay - 03-29-2012 we got this drive free with an order from Newegg (I think) http://www.amazon.com/LG-GP08LU30-External-DVD-Writer-Monochrome/dp/B0039U3J2Y i recently booted an aluminum Mac Mini server (that doesn't have an optical drive) from a DVD using it. i use both USB connectors on the Mac end for better power. The Mac Pro comes with an internal SuperDrive and a second internal drive can be added too. Re: Is AIR super drive only for an AIR? - rz - 03-29-2012 I think she means MacBook Pro. Which also comes with an internal SuperDrive. Who knows? Re: Is AIR super drive only for an AIR? - cbelt3 - 03-29-2012 samintx wrote: you need to use both connectors. Two USB inputs mean that the drive doesn't get enough power to operate from one USB connection (on a computer... unpowered hubs don't count.) |
